today i finished this.....
with a load of inspiration from here.....
pinterest challenge post here - by the lettered cottage - check out this blog - i love it!!! |
then i got hold of some of these puffy letters from spotlight.....
(you could perhaps use a flat sticker - but i found these good to grab hold of to pull off later - as you will see)
goob and i then stuck letters, numbers & symbols randomly around the jar.
i'm not good with random at times so she had to help!!!!.....
back on the shelf to see how it looked so far... |
and in the cold cold garage i started to spray paint all over that sucker!!
i used light squirts - trying not to spray too much that it would run. (it did run a little in some spots - but i tried not to panic! - you can't really see it unless you get up close and personal!)
i sprayed 2 coats with the jar the right way up - then 2 coats with it standing upside down (making sure paint got on the underside of all the letters and numbers etc) - then 1 last coat right way up again. (it's a personal thing - just do it until you think the coverage is good enough)
i waited until it was touch dry between coats.
(i also used a little heater in our garage at times - as it's been freezing again down here - and i'm impatient - and wanted it all to dry faster!)
here's after the first coat.....
and here's after i finished spraying and it was all dry.....
i then pulled off all those stickers carefully - using my fingers and a small pair of tweezers where needed.....
some little bits of the foam letters got left behind in places.....
so i pulled out the tweezers and gently scratched and picked at the edges where needed.....
then i gave it all a wipe with a slightly soft damp cloth and then dried it down - and the results were great.....
and the jar (with lid screwed back on) was done!!!
but wait - there's more!!
this is what we planned to store in the jar.....
goob's stash of nail polish! |
i grabbed some of my stash of felt and traced around the bottom of the jar with a pencil.....(if i didn't have felt - i was thinking i'd just use some tissues or some cotton wool - just something for a little padding).....
.....cut that circle out with scissors.....
.....and then lay that circle inside at the bottom of the jar.....
trust me - there's a circle of white felt covering the bottom of the jar - i promise!! |
and - we are done. that sucker is now all finished on goob's 'new & improved' bookcase (upgrade of the bookcase blogged about here).....
all pretties - yes???!!
note: i didn't use any other paint or finish other than the white spray paint (ie no primer). this jar won't get handled a lot - so i believe that this coverage should be adequate......i'll let you know if this all ends in failure!! for now the paint looks good - general handling appears to be fine - we'll see how it goes.
a before and after........
the jar now hides the nail polish - but keeps it well contained and within easy reach.
the bookcase 'bits' are almost finished (ie - the stuff that is going on those shelves!!).
hugz from me.

linking up with .........do go and say hello......
Great project! I can think of lots of other uses for this idea.
ReplyDeleteYou have excellent ideas!!! Thank you for the jar idea and the faux glass dome idea. Just helped me out with a cheaper cost than those glass domes that cost a fortune for my paper sculptures. :D
ReplyDeleteLove all your projects. It's amazing what your able to do with such limited supply's. You really are resourceful.
ReplyDeletePractical, attractive and recycled - I love it!
