underground home.........just in case!!

alerted to this doozy today via Lori at automatism who found this - waiting for the end of the word at metropolismag.com

from the blurb -
The Las Vegas house shown on these pages is a sort of stage set for the Nuclear Age. Located 25 feet below-ground, it’s not a casino attraction or a subterranean Brady Bunch pad for nostalgic high rollers but something more extreme: a relic of that odd and delusional moment during the Cold War when our government tried convincing us that the prospect of a nuclear attack was neither unthinkable nor hopeless. We could survive, they told us, if we prepared.

more info -
The underground complex of Girard B. Henderson was completed in 1978, five years before his death. The elaborate bomb shelter is located beneath a typical two-story suburban house in Las Vegas. Although the house was later sold, the shelter is still intact and is occasionally rented out for corporate events and parties.

  1. Wow this is amazing. I didn't know such a place existed. I would have expected an "underground house" to be dark, cold and scary but this is quite the opposite. Thanks for sharing, what a great read :))

  2. now that is understandably freaky. I can see why he built it though.

Could you breath in there without feeling suffocated?
